Alkali black liquor is a high-concentration organic wastewater produced in the alkaline pulping process in the papermaking industry. It contains a large amount of organic matter such as lignin and hemicellulose, as well as inorganic matter such as sodium hydroxide. In the treatment process of alkaline black liquor, foam problems often occur. These foams not only affect the normal operation of the treatment equipment, but also may lead to problems such as reduced treatment efficiency and increased treatment costs. Therefore, the application of alkaline black liquor defoamer is particularly important.

The working principle of alkaline black liquor defoamer is mainly to achieve the defoaming effect by reducing the surface tension of the foam liquid film. The defoamer molecules can quickly penetrate into the surface of the foam liquid film, replace the original surfactant molecules, and reduce the local surface tension of the liquid film. Due to the uneven surface tension of the liquid film, the foam breaks. In addition, the defoamer also has the dual functions of breaking and suppressing foam. The breaking function can quickly destroy the formed foam, while the suppressing function can prevent new foam from being generated again.

According to the properties of the alkaline black liquor, the specific requirements of the treatment process and the characteristics of the treatment equipment, select the appropriate type of defoamer. For example, for high-concentration, strong alkaline black liquor, silicone defoamers can be given priority; while for high-treatment temperatures and low requirements for defoaming speed, polyether defoamers may be more suitable.
